Well, I'm at that age where my interests are many and varied. I've been an avid reader most of my life so books are right up there at the top of my list. Some of my favorite writers are: J. California Cooper, Bebe Moore Campbell, Octavia Butler, Dean Koontz, James Patterson and Zadie Smith, among many, many others. My dream house has a large library with three walls of bookshelves, lots of plants and a fireplace for roaring fires in the winter!
I also enjoy writing and am currently in the midst of writing my first novel. I like to write mainly about ethnicity, diversity and commonalities and have also recently begun to write fiction.
I love most types of music, especially jazz. I adore Bob James, Bob Cole, Kirk Whalum, Joe McBride and many others. Learning to play the piano is another one of my interests.
I am an ardent advocate for the rights of children. I was a volunteer with CASA for many years though I am currently inactive. CASA volunteers are court-appointed special advocates who work for the interests of children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse and/or neglect. There are CASA organizations in virtually every major city. If you are looking for a worthwhile way to volunteer, I urge you to contact your local CASA office or to go to the national website, click here.
As you can see, I have many interests and passions. And I've not even mentioned my love of languages and collecting!
